Autism & Transitions – Supporting Children Through Change
Mandy is an autistic adult, parent of four neurodivergent children, and an experienced specialist teacher with over 20 years supporting autistic young people. As a Director of Autism South East and a Lead Teacher for Autism Specialist Provision, Mandy combines professional expertise with lived experience to deliver powerful, affirming training that helps others truly understand and support autistic individuals.
Transitions—especially at the end of the school year—can be overwhelming for autistic children.
What can look like behaviour is often:
• Anxiety
• Sensory overload
• Exhaustion
• Difficulty processing change
This session helps you understand what is really happening—and what actually helps.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
• Why transitions can feel unsafe
• What anxiety really looks like (including hidden distress)
• The impact of sensory differences and processing
• Why children may “hold it together” at school and collapse at home
• Practical strategies to support children through change
Change doesn’t just feel difficult. It can feel unsafe!
